2 wd s 10 bucks like its in 4x4 when cold

ok i have a 98 s 10 pu, 2 wheel drive, when its cold and or wet, any time of the day, doesnt matter if its been driven or not that day, but when backen up or turning hard, its bucks like its in four wheel drive, i changed the rear diff oil it went away for a while but now its back, what could this be, my breaks lock up hard when its cold and wet out, they will lock up with no effort, they enguage they lock, is this all 4 or just one set? if just one set any idea as to which it is, theres no rust on any part of the break system, ive pulled apart and looked. Have you had the truck since it was new or did you buy it used??? This is just a possible chance and probably not very likely but if you bought it used there might be a slim possibility the rear end has a spool. That will lock up the rear end and makes turning very tuff.

used, with 100k on it, how would i know if it had a spool?

You could jack up the rear end of the truck and put it on blocks or jack stands and start it up and have someone give it a little gas. A diff. that has a spool will make both rear tires spin at the same speed ALWAYS. Be very carefull doing that though.

put it in neutral and jack one back tire of the ground. You should be able to spin the tire fairly easily, if it has a spool it will not turn more than about an inch in either direction

ok thanks danny, with a posi rear end i think both would spin if i lifted it up

If you want to tell for sure you could pull the cover. I highly doubt it has a spool, if it did it would chirp the tires any time you made a moderately sharp turn, in forward or reverse.

yeah and the tires dont and i can drive like a real ass sometimes

Does it only do it when you're in reverse and turning or just reverse???

while turning in reverse, only in the morning (or when first moved for the day)

Hmmm only when first moved for the day??? The only thing I can think of is the gearing in the diff. being messed up but I'd take it somewhere and have it checked out.
