Advice of whats happening with an 86 clutch?

Well let me start of describing the MR2, it's an '86 with an '89 engine replacement in it. (As how I bought it) and the clutch was replaced when I was having the safety services done. Felt heavy so wanted to ensure it was a good clutch while I had the funds to service it.

That aside, a few months later I let a couple guys sit in the 'cockpit' to check it out. I had the keys and chated with a couple guys beside the car. Then we all broke off to head home and I barely got the MR2 home! The clutch went completely soft on the way so it's not disengaging the tranny. The current condition is the clutch starts teh car but it's going at the turn of the key. In gear it's strong. The 2 guys are not stickshift literate people adn had 'Mario Andretti'ed' on the stick shift. Clutch wasn't touched at all. It was strong to begin with.

Soooo I'm no mechanic by any means and I've spoken to a few and they all have different opinios which isn't any help. Anyone here have an idea what I'm looking at? A total clutch replacement , tranny replacement , or a 15$ part

Best guess I got is either the linkage is shot, it's out of alignment with the syncro's? or it's totally burned which means I'm SOL in a big way!

So plz anyone can provide a ray of light of what's happening? Good or bad I really would like a clue. Thxs.

Re: Advice of whats happening with an 86 clutch?

I'm not clear to what your problem is with the car. From what I think your saying, it looks like your hydraulic system for your clutch is failing. This is most commonly a failure at the master cylinder. Most likely if this is your problem, your clutch fluid will be low.
