Is this a true experience or just some dolt who uses other brands! I'm not looking for opinions I'm looking for experienced users.

Re: New exhaust system?
Okay. I'll pass on information from experiences I've had.
Flowmasters drone. It's something you won't find from any other muffler. It's annoying at certain rpm's, but it's always there. If it's not gurgling then it's droning, and it sounds bad on every system I've ever heard it on. I've heard it on Mustangs, Camaros, Dodge trucks, GM trucks, Ford trucks, you name it and I've heard someone running them on their vehicle. That's only the sound part. To give you an idea on how restrictive these things are, I'll give you an example concerning my very own truck. My truck has 2 bolts missing on the left side exhaust manifold, they broke off inside. The manifold has pulled away and has a distance about as wide as a hairline in between the head and the one half of the manifold. When idling with no muffler on, you cannot see exhaust come out of there. I stuck one of the 40 series Flowmasters my buddy was about to put on his 4.6 Mustang onto my exhaust, and instantly the exhaust starts to come out of in between the head and manifold. It looked similar to the smoke it makes if you drop water on a hot element, or if something like a piece of plastic is put on it and it starts to burn. It came out so it was noticeable. We took that muffler off and stuck a normal Thrush muffler on it. No exhaust came out. I figured that if the Flowmaster was restrictive enough to make exhaust come out of somewhere that was in excess of 6 feet down the exhaust path, that's got to be bad. If it's not letting exhaust out that fast, then what's it going to do with my gas mileage and performance? It frightens me. I didn't even have tailpipes on, like come on... I don't like Flowmaster. Maybe sounding bad and buying lots of gas is the cool thing to do these days, but I don't want any part of it. I started calling people dolts. They don't know what it means.

Re: New exhaust system?
my 2 cents and personal experience.
I had the flowmaster 50 series on a Tundra , horrible sound and drone. Drove us crazy inside the cab at certain rpms. changed it out to the TRD exhaust, asap. Ive had the flowmaster 70 series on a 02 Silverado and loved it. The 70 is the quietest and largest flowmaster. Nice rumble, not real loud, no drone at all no annoying sounds in or out the cab on a 5.3 Silverado. I recvd tons of compliments on the sound. Just talked to a local Dodge dealership and they said most people are requesting the 50 or 70 series Flowmaster on their new trucks. Im considering exhaust systems myself and was going to be posting the same question here so im glad you did. Me personaly, if i were choosing Flowmaster I would go 70 series, but I dont like real loud. But Im looking into others as well depending on what gets recomended here. |

Right on - an educated man! Thanks for the input on the 50 & 70 series. I want to hear it a little on the inside and a lot on the outside.

Re: New exhaust system?
Just got off the phone with a well known exhaust shop out here. I was told that Flowmaster has made a special muffler for the Hemi trucks because the 40, 50, and 70 series are too loud for alot of people. Thats probably the one in the diagram you posted.
He told me that it would be 25% louder then my chevy was with the 70 series on it. He rcomended I just stay with the stock exhaust. |

Re: New exhaust system?
i say go no muffler unless of course you have emissions. In that case then that sucks. My sport sounds awesome, im just running a cat with a straight pipe where the muffler used to be.

Re: New exhaust system?
Well i found a cheep way to get a exaust. I have the stock 3" exaust off of my Dads 99 diesil on my 01 5.9l gas. Had to fab some parts but it went in with very little work. We also worked around the second O2 sensor and removed the cat. I do not have emissions so i can get away with it. So i have a three inch exaust from the manifolds back. Sounds great not to loud but has a great rumble. Dodgeintheblood
