Question 94 Ranger- won't start

I have a 94 Ranger 2.3l auto. Turned key and all I get is one click. I took the starter out and had it checked. The gear did not pop out to engage the flywheel . I replaced the starter, But the same thing happens. The Battery is new and fully charged, with new clamps, I show good continuity between battery and starter. Any help would be appreciated.

Had the exact same problem last week, except I have a 5 speed manual tranny. I changed the Solenoid Switch (or Starter Relay- $25 CDN), it's right next to the battery, and now it starts every time. Takes 5 minutes. Make sure you take the ground off the battery first. Good luck.
