86 S-10 dash lights

I plugged my cell phone in to charge once in my S-10 and I heard a little crackling noise. Now when I turn on my parking or headlights the dash goes dead. All the lights go out and the only gauge that works is the speedo. Same thing happens if I turn on the interior lights either by opening a door or manually turning the dial. I checked all the fuses and they are ok. I know nothing about electricity so is there anything else to try before taking to a garage? I'm afraid they will rape me for a wiring harness. It's got the 2.8l if that matters.

Also on another note, it's got 108k and I'm getting about 15-16 mpg. Can it do better?

Your lighter attachment probably shorted out when you pluged in your cell phone. Some of the wires may have melted together causing it or some of you fuzes have been burnt. Check the fuzes and your wiring
