|
Was a CD an option?
I have a 96 Metro LSi and was wanting to get a factory CD player for it. Does anyone have one and secondly what ones will hook up to my factory wires. I just have a (double-din style factory) AM-FM radio in it now.

You can get an adaptor kit and harness to allow any CD player to fit in your metro. I have a Kenwood KDC-525 deck in my car, no cutting required to wire it in. I don't know if CD was ever an option, but if so, I'd say only in the last model years of the metro. The harness never changed from beginning to end on the metro/swift/firefly/sprint line, so if you find one, and it physically fits, it'll just plug in.
But I'd still recommend going with an aftermarket deck, and a kit/harness. Metra and Scosche make kits. Walmart sells Scosche, but anywhere that doesn't suck should carry metra kits. The part numbers you'd need can be found at http://www.metraonline.com/ You won't need an antenna adaptor, as they used a standard Motorola type aftermarket plug on the factory antenna. Little trivia note: The radio harness used on a Metro is the same harness used on John Deere 5000 series farm tractors. The 6000-8000 series use Volkswagen harnesses. (I work for a stereo store in an agricultural center).

Never have seen a CD player. But it's pretty cheap to go aftermarket. The wire harnesses are actually just stock GM stuff. Most common out there (though the companies would make you think otherwise).

True but I bet if you wanted an oem one bad enough you could pick one out of a prizm, metro or tracker in a junk yard.

For a Geo, I'd say go to ebay, try to find a noname MP3 CD player for about $50-70 & get the mounting kit & wire harness for another $20. Skip the double DIN, unless you just can't handle the blank spot. Heck, you can get pockets to fill the empty space usually. Great for sunglasses.

That's more reasonable. Of course, what am I saying, I fiberglassed 10" subs into the back side panels & have component speakers in the front powered by two amps at around 1000 watts. All being driven by a CD player & changer. Still, unless you're competing, no one should pay more than $100 for a source unit.
