Cutlass Cierra--lights dim

I have a 96 Cutlass Cierra, and when I have the headlights on and apply the brakes the lights will dim for a split second. The alternator and battery are both new as they were weak already. Is this just something to live with?

1996 cutless ciera lights dim

I too have a 1996 Cutless Ciera that when I step on the brakes the headlights dim. I just started to notice it when the weather got colder. My car also has a new battery and alternator replaced in Aug. 2004. I just bought the car in May of 2004.

I have to take it in tomorrow Jan 6th to get the thermastat changed because it overheated and I had no heat. I will ask my mechanic about the dimming of the lights and post it here what I find out.

lights dim when brakes applied 96 cutless cicera

I asked my mechanic and he said that the computer on this model isn't advanced like other computers are so it takes time for it to refresh. And the reason I noticed it now is because it's colder and it takes more power to start the car.

He explained it better, but this is what I got out of it.
