Well....my neighbor (20 year auto mechanic veteran) volunteered to help replace the head gasket on my 1995 S-10 2.2L truck. He came over (about 5 weeks ago) and ripped everything off the motor in no time flat.
He has since been really scarce. :-( My problem....since he ripped everything apart, I am having a hell of a time putting this back together. I have gotten the head, rocker arms, valve cover done, but am stuck from there on out. If anyone could post pictures of the exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and the associated brackets and general locations of things, I would be MOST APPRECIATIVE!! PLEASE HELP!! |

Re: Pictures of 1995 S-10 Engine
You're best bet at this point would be to get a haynes or chilton's manual

Got both, but they don't go into that kind of detail.

Would it help if I told you guys that I am kicking the wife out of the house, but can't do so until the truck is running? (True story!)

Re: Pictures of 1995 S-10 Engine
First, sorry about your wife. Second, please tell us the engine size and fuel injection type (CPI or TBI). If its a 4.3 TBI (Z code) let me know and I may be able to help. I just replaced the intake manifold gasket on mine.

Mine is a 2.2L....not sure of the fuel injection type....but, I do know that it has a fuel rail...if that helps.
I mainly need some pictures of a completely assembled motor. I have several brackets/bars that I'm not sure about their location. |

Re: Pictures of 1995 S-10 Engine
Unless staying up too late watching football has turned off my brain, a fuel rail means you have multi-port.
TBI (Throttle Body Injection) = the fuel injectors, usualy two on chevy's, are mounted just above the actualy throttle body and spray into it. Fuel lines are screwed directly into the throttle body. BTW this is kind of cool for a new mechanic because you can see the injectors working. CPI (central Port Injection) = the fuel injectors, usualy two on chevy's, are directly bolted to the intake manifold with a housing. Fuel lines will screw into the fuel injector housing. MPI (Multi-Port Injection) = there is a fuel injector for each cyclinder mounted just before each intake valve. The fuel rail is used in this design to supply constant fuel pressure to all these injectors. Sorry I can't help with your assembly due to my lack of experience with the 2.2L. Good luck. |

Re: Pictures of 1995 S-10 Engine
Just a thought, how about inviting anyone with the same truck over for beers in exchange for them letting you look under the hood for a bit.
If you can't do this you might be able to test drive another truck, and bring it home for a 1/2 hour, or even the night. Good luck with the wife, and hope that you can still be friends |

Re: Pictures of 1995 S-10 Engine
if you ever want to get gouged that's the way to do it, mechanics HATE fixing anything that they didn't take apart, and will let you know when it comes time to pay.
Plus with him kicking his wife out the poor guy will be lucky enough to have 2 dimes left to rub together (although I'd hate to get kicked out during the winter) |
