79' Ford
Well,I have a 79' Ford Long bed, and I plan to fixer up. As of now, its got an old 351 and 2wd. I would like to find a beater in the junkyard with a 4 or 6" lift(they came factory from Ford like this but rare to find). I plan on swapping transfers, front diffs, get a 3/4 ton rear end, and some other goodies. I want to get a 460 for it it put that in, but will the C-6 tranny hold up with all this? Some Ideas would be awesome! Anyways, I am not going to buy a new truck, but do you guys reckon this will be TOO much work? I am up for a challenge!

Ford did make a factory high boy truck but only in 1973,74,75 and only in a f-250. I have a 1974 and my father-in-law has a 1975. But if you plan on swaping parts I would look at getting a half ton because the frame in about 4 inches narrower on the high boys and nothing will fit without alot of work, plus they are rare and very hard to find. I put a body on mine off of a half ton and had to redrill the back cab mounts and box mounts.

I have a 79 Bronco that I did the same stuff to. I rebuilt a 460(475hp), rebuilt the C-6 and put a Trans Go shift kit in. That helped it shift better and keep it cooler than other shift kits. 4" suspention lift and a 3" body lift. I got L&L motor mounts and L&L Headers. I did too much to mention to it but it is one fun toy.
