Angry Brake problems...

My brakes squeek all the time, and I had just accepted that and moved on, but now they even squeek for a while after I have let off the brake pedal...what do I do?

The first thing i would do is check to make sure there isn't any foriegn objects lodged between your pads and your rotor. Take the tires off and look down in between the pads and rotor. Also it could be that your brake pads are worn out. On most brake pads there is a piece of metal attached to the pads, and as the pads wear down the piece of metal gets closer and closer to the rotor untill eventually the peice of metal grinds on the rotor making that loud sound. It's probably just time to replace the pads.

On another note, one of the drums on your rear brakes may have something lodged in it. Either a rock or one of the springs may have come loose and is now just stuck between the brake shoe and the drum. The drums are a little harder to get off if you have an older truck cuz they tend to get rusty and stick to the shoes. Also when you are trying to get the drums off, make sure that you don't have the parking brake on or else you'll never get the off. Good luck

Re: Brake problems...

i am a michigan state certified brake technician

well redrockets-10, the first logical thing to do is get a brake job. ignoring any abnormal sound on a vehicle is not smart at all. and there is no possible way for a rock to get into a brake drum they are completely sealed off, well exept for water of course, if you can't get your drums off hit them with a sledge hammer that will knock the rust off. even if the pads are new it could be the metallic metal shavings in the pad itself but if they are grinding even if you let off i am almost 100% sure you need new pads

Replace your brake pads, they are running on their indicators saying "change me"
