1991 Buick Regal Limited 3.8litre Supercharge
Assuming i could get ahold of a supercharger for my buick, how difficult would the installation be for me? I do have more than average knowledge about cars and how engines work, and work very well with my hands.
What things would supercharging my buick entail? would i have to have it tuned to work properly, or make modifications to the CPU (also not a problem, i have a lot of experience working with home computers and electronics)? Furthermore, would weather such as snow and heavy rain effect the engine in any way, I will most likely have to cut a hole in my hood (which i have no problem with) to allow the supercharger to fit. Thanks! |

Re: 1991 Buick Regal Limited 3.8litre Supercharge
Just find a supercharged engine from another GM car and replace the entire engine and ecm. That has to be easier than trying to add a SC to a 91 Buick.
I have a 99 Regal GS (a supercharged version) and I believe some internals are different in the 3800 SC version than the standard 3800 version. Like I am supposed to use premium gas (92 octane) vs regular gas (87 octane) in the standard 3800. |

replacing the engine is not an option.

If you want to use your existing motor, your only option would be to look for a supercharger from an early supercharged 3800 and it should bolt right on. Cars that have this engine include the 1992-95 Buick Park Ave. Ultra, Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, and Oldsmobile 98 Touring Sedan. On all of the above listed cars the 1992-93 engines put out 205HP. The 1994-95 engine put out 225HP. The only internal difference between the N/A and the supercharged engines are the connecting rods. The fuel injectors are also different 22 Ibs./Hr for N/A, 28Ibs./Hr. for supercharged. The supercharger shouldn't take up much more space than your current intake. You will probably need to do a PCM swap as well. There isn't much tuning that you can control. Your 4T60 tranny may need to be beefed up as well to accomodate the extra power - it can't take much abuse as it is. I don't know much more than that. Good Luck!
