oil leak at oil line adaptor

Ok I beleive that this is the same exact spot leaking I had fixed last winter. My shop suggested I get it fixed when they inspected it and the details they said is "Oil leak at oil line adaptor at the left rear of the engine block". I have the oil filter mounted up at the front end of my blazer. It is a 92 S10 4x4 4.3L Vin Z. My question is this a hard location to get to? And if it is the same spot as last year my garage wanted $230 to fix it but I had a college shop do it for parts plus $7 which totalled $14 for me. If it is a gasket there that has broken why did it only last a year? I only put on about 12,000 miles and it is broke again? Is this also a notorious leak spot in the blazers? I use 5w30 valvoline in my blazer I have considered going to synthetic recently but have not due to the cost right now and since I am leaking badly from the spot it would be wasting a lot of money. Right now my pressure will be around 40 PSI when driving but when idling the pressure will drop to 5 or 10 PSI. Can't be any more exact there due to the gauge I have. Any suggestions as to not have this spot leak again once I fix it again?

More than likely it's the lines themselves leaking. This is very typical on our trucks. GM has since come out with a 3 crimp version. You can buy the gasket kit for the adapter itself for about 2 bux at advance. Get the new lines and crush washers. All you need to change it is a ratchet, a couple of extensions and a 13mm socket.

Re: oil leak at oil line adaptor

Oh Yes its a common problem. I bought my blazer 3 years ago and were leaking when I bought it. Finally got around to changing them in the fall. The leak was not really all that bad in my case but was leaking at the Hose Crimps not the crush gaskets.
Let me give you some advice, Do not remove the Oil filter adapter unless you are sure the leak is coming from there. Its a nightmare to remove, you have to jack the engine slightly and move it on the outside of the Exhaust pipe to get it out and clean it right. Not to mention I snapped one of the bolts putting it back in. According to GM supposed to be 35Fbs of torque to reinstall the 2 bolts on the adapter..... NOT at 30 Lbs they stretched and one snapped. I reinstalled at 15 and no leaks yet.
Anyway, Leave the adapter in place if you are doing the rear set of lines and use what is called a "wobble" extention and a 13mm socket. Remove the front skidplate and run the extention down the side of the base pan between the front transaxle above the engine mount untill you can see the socket at the lines. You may still have to "jack" the engine a little to get enough clearence to get the old lines out. The front set are pretty straight forward. WYSIWYG.
Cheers and good luck
J

Re: oil leak at oil line adaptor

A lot of people installing the new revised lines even get the leak happening.

Mine has been sweating oil for over 6 years but it never leaks. Just a hanging drop of oil that never falls.

Re: oil leak at oil line adaptor

well I am hoping to get it fixed next week when college starts back up. I had drove it after doing an oil change but then let it sit for about 3 weeks mainly and I had to put in about a quart to a quart and half. So this is noe thign I am gonna keep an eye on. Won't be driving it really until the weekdn when i go abck to college. I am definately makign sure it is full and than getting it in asap. I would attempt it myself if I ahd someone that knew exactly what needed done watching me but sicne I have not done it before and I need to drive this weekend I am not gonna touch it.

But what does everyone think? Should I replace the lines also? or just do the gasket again?
