Anyone donated yet???

Has anyone donated to the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund?

If so, do you mind sharing your thoughts about it?

Re: Anyone donated yet???

I donated $50 to my local Red Cross center. If you're fearful of scammers, just look for the Verisign logo on the website or go to an established group around your town.

well a verisign logo is a good thing but i don't think its 100% perfect.

The best thing is to go to established charities or others that you know for sure are legit.

One way to find safe charities is to go to the ones listed by major sites:

Google has a big list:
http://www.google.com/tsunami_relief.html

yahoo has a few others listed on its page (that is where i got the two links in the announcement):
http://www.yahoo.com/

amazon has a big link right on their home page:
http://www.amazon.com

Oh and btw if you guys receive mails requesting money do not click on their links even if they say redcross.com. Just follow links from trusted websites (yahoo, google, amazon etc)

Re: Anyone donated yet???

There's several organisations providing natonwide donation lines in this country, simply by calling up,you make a donation of $20.However,I'm not sure how much of that is going to the telephone company,so I made my donation in person to a local charity who are collecting on behalf of the Red Cross.

Re: Anyone donated yet???

I think about donating to them.... then I look back on how bad Florida was ravaged by multiple hurricanes, and how many members of my family live in florida......

then I looked to see how many people from there donated to a relief fund to help floridians or anyone else in the united states......

so I went and bought a value meal.

Re: Anyone donated yet???

€300 equates to about US$400. I donated £100 (~$190).

Even if your country has donated millions, the impacted region is in need of a hell of a lot more. £7bn or so...

This isn't like voting, where your action as an individual is extremely unlikely to make a difference. People are starving to death and every additional donation really does make a difference. $100 rebuilds one home. Even if you can't donate a lot, whatever you can will make a difference.

I haven't donated a penny. Given the amount of money I put into our dog rescue group and such, and the amount of work I do with it, etc. I don't feel the need to donate a penny towards anything else. Whenever I feel that need, I donate it right to the charity I work with that way I know exactly where my money is going, especially since I'm generally the one that spends it lol.
