Uh oh 1st vs. 2nd gen

Ok, sorry to vent my frustrations on you guys but this kid at my school is pissing me off. He has a 1st gen Tsi FWD with 160k miles and I have a 2nd gen GSX with 80k miles. Anyway im all for 1st gen pride but this kid is insane. The other day he basicly told my that my car will never be as fast or nice as his. I know that 1st gens are lighter and are rated for higher HP but they are still both DSMs. He told me that 2nd gens shouldnt be considered DSMs and basicly thats what brought me here. I think theres a pretty good mix of 1st and 2nd gen owners here and what are you opinions comparing the 2 different generations?

I got the same prob, every morning at school. Even though I own a 1g, id love to have a turbo 2gen. Both have their advantages and dis. I love the looks of a 2 more, but the 1g AWD is just SICK! But if its a DSM, I dont give them a hard time...otherwise, we'd be Honda racers.

Re: Uh oh 1st vs. 2nd gen

1g's better performance
2g's better looks.

it really dosn't matter what anyone thinks as long as your cool with what you have. there will always be a nicer, faster car.

So true, so true!!

I drive a 1G TSi FWD. I would live to have the AWD, they are amazing. Tonnes of people tell me that the 1st gens just look old and stuff, but hey...I like it. The 2nd Gens look cool, but the only people who really like them are ricers. DONT GET ME WRONG...I am not calling all people who like 2nd Gens ricers, but in your case that dude is just like "hey, im a retard who is oblivious to the fact that my car is not the most amazing thing in the world"

So yeah, i think I would rather own a 1st gen because of the challange of owning it. it is not as easily accepted, a lot of parts are more difficult to find...i dunno, it is more fun i think.

but i still love the 2nd gens!!!

Re: Uh oh 1st vs. 2nd gen

well technically my 99 gst is not a dsm, because there aren't 99 tallons. the dsm alliance was over in 98, so the 99's are part of the dsm deal. thats why the turbo wing was part of a sports package on the gs along with white gauge faces. also why 99's have a black leather option. thats also why the 99 3kgt has a different spoiler.

Yeah they made 1999 3000gt which looks badass. The spoiler on the 99 3kgt (only VR-4) are similar to Evo 7-8.

I love dsm's period. I like looks about 1g and 2g. In your case..a 1g turbo FWD vs. and 2g GSX...I'd rather have the gsx. AWD is where its at. I had FWD and when i switched...it felt like a whole new car...awesome feeling. 1g are cheaper...got to love that. Girls tend to love 2g's around here anyways(thats a plus). 1st gen you can bolt on a sweet evo 16g or 20g with a couple tools(thats a plus). 2g has more of selection/easy to find parts encluding performance and non performance. Which is good unless you crave the challenege of finding that "hard to get" part : )

Bottom line is..they are both sweet cars..love em all.

Re: Uh oh 1st vs. 2nd gen

I agree. You have the clear advantage with AWD IMO. I'm biased, but I might pick up a FWD 2g someday for a daily driver. Either way, the differences are minimal. Lightweight 2Gs are out there, in fact the race weight for 1g and 2g is pretty similar. Look at Russ Coxs 2g... The kid is an assclown, 1g and 2g arent that different, and to say your car will never be as fast or as nice as his is absurd. But technically peaking most 2Gs arent relly DSMs. But since the cars are so similar, we call them all 2Gs Most 95s will in fact have the DSM tag on the firewall. My very late 95 has it, for whatever thats worth. Who cares, they're the same car.

1st gens aren't rated for more power, and his FWD will never compare. Go race and get it over with.

Re: Uh oh 1st vs. 2nd gen

I can't believe that guy is dissing another dsm owner. True technically we don't have dsm's but who cares. The cars are basicly the same. In all honesty, Stock for Stock, you'll be owning him. 2G's turbos are rated at 210hp stock and 1G's turbos are 195hp stock (I know they have the better engine, more potential and way better turbo but I said stock) Not to mention you have AWD. You car should good for a high 14 considering your a good driver and manual, and he should be pulling a low 15 considering he's good and manual too. Just take him to a stop light, race his ass, own his ass, and then slap his ignorant ass

BTW if I'm not mistaken, FWD is hard to get into the 12's range no matter if it's 1st or 2nd gen. With AWD it's no prob. I think he needs to retract his statement. With his car being FWD, His car will never be as fast or nice as yours. Good car but nothing beats AWD
