2006 Z06, 427 LS7 -500hp

I just got the Newest car and driver today....then new LS7 vette is a 500hp, 475lb-ft monster.

Bigger Brakes, wheels, tires, diry-sump lubrication system, various cooling upgrades, and a big bore exhaust. It also has carbon fiber front fenders instead of the fiberglass, they weight 2.8 lbs apiece, instead of the 9.2 of the previous ones. The total weight is 3130 pounds.

I just thought I would share this after I was done drooling over the magazine, but forgive me if this has already been posted.

The Z06 is priced at $75,000

I think that it is the best sports car for the money. The only one i could see that would be close would be the new 2006 Viper coupe that brings back the old white on blue Viper theme that everyone loved. The Vette is still cooler and probably faster though.

heh.... and where have you seen this? The Viper has ALWAYS been quicker/faster than the Z06....

the new Z06 should finally beat the Viper though... unless Chysler bumps up the power in the Viper.....

The viper isnt going to stand a chance ever.The z06 has been around its stood the test of time.The corvette design has been through just about everything you can put a car through simply by the test of time.They didnt make no cool ass viper 50 years ago.Are they going to make 50 cool ass vipers in a row for 50 years consecutivley>?.Not without that stupid dodge grill that killed the new charger.Go look at a new charger and think"the new dodge has 40 more HP than the new Mustangs 300hp does".Then walk over and look at the new Z06 and see it has 50 HP less than the new ford GT BUT its not supercharged as of yet.The new ford GT is cool but its all she wrote 550hp 4.6 litre 4.6 supercharged.The new Z06 is a 427SBC 500hp not supercharged.

At first i thought the new GT was stealing some of the Z06 big 50 but now i dont feel like that its the land of potential with the suspension to back it up.

It's true that the past ZO6 wasn't totally up to its full potential but when it first came out it beat the Viper. The ZO6 had very, very close 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4 mile times. Finally Car & Driver took a 2001 ZO6, 2001 Viper, and a 2000 Cobra R out to Daytona. The Corvette had the best times followed by the Cobra and the Viper was dead last.

The ZO6 was a much better buy when it came out but Chevy never seemed to raise the bar on it. Finally they're pushing it and the ZO6 is once again the better buy here.

If by some chance the Viper is able to stay around for 50 years it won't be the same as it is today. Dodge has been able to, so far, get away with putting the biggest V10 engine into a car to make it fast. The thing is they haven't really done much to it since it last came out. Now other car companies are evolving their smaller engines and it won't be long when that big V10 can't help the Viper.

Actually the GT-40 has a supercharged 5.4 which was what was in the Lightning trucks. Also, I don't think it'll be "all she wrote" as of yet. I'm sure there's more horsepower that could be squeezed out of that engine. Right now though, 550 is enough for the Ferraris and other European exotics it's going up against.

I never thought the GT-40 took the ZO6's thunder. Everything I always looked at talked about it going up against the European's and stealing their thunder. Right now though the new Corvette/ZO6 and Mustangs seem to be the center of attention in the automotive world and not the GT-40.

Aren't they making 20% of all C6's Z06s? Thats going to be tough at $75k. I was at a dealership yesterday and the dude told me $65k. I've heard everything from $58k to $75k. Truth is no one knows.

If they are $75k GM will be discounting them heavily within 2 years. I'll just pick up a used one after the first owner gets drilled by depreciation.
