How do you gut out your stock cat?

I was just wondering how to go about this? I've heard some things like it gives you a few extra ponies (horsepower). i dont have money right now and just looking for something cheap to do. I look inside of the cat and see some wire mesh looking stuff on both ends. Any ideas on how to do this or has anyone ever done it before? Thanks for all replies.

Allright...but could you tell me how to do it anyways? I got friends at emissions places that will pass my car for me so i dont have to worry about fines. Oh and...does it make it any louder by doing that and what kinda HP could i expect?

to answer your question though you take a big blunt object or a semi blunt object like a huge ass craftsman brand screwdriver and a 5 pound sledge and take out all your frustrations

i just used a slim jim or a crowbar (sp) and jammed it up in there. we don't have emissions where i lives so it doesn't matter.i loved it. took out alot of pent up anger

dont gut too much outta it tho, it will eventually do more bad then worse, plus cops dont like the sound that will be produced when your coming down the road.

if you have a stock muffler, it wont get much louder, a little, but the bumblebee sound will be there

HP gains are minimal at best. most modern catalytic converters flow better than mufflers.

when i gutted the cat converter in my integra i only did so out of neccessity, the catalyst structer was damaged and clogging my exhaust, robbing my car of power, the car wasnt worth a new cat converter so i just gutted it
