torque convertor

1992 Olds 98 Regency, 3800 engine. When going up hill at times I get a shuttering as if a dead plug wire. When in park and rev it up to 2500-3500rpm and let off I get a bang from the transmission and the car lurches as if it jumps in gear for a second. Sound like a torque convertor? All new plugs and wires. Thanks

Re: torque convertor

why would you rev an engine like the 3.8 to 2500RPM ever?

Re: torque convertor

I THINK SOMEONE DOESNT WANT THERE CAR! THAT ENGINE WILL NOT TAKE ABUSE! check your plugs and or wires for sparks jumping in the dark anyway. new plugs and wires come bad also. when's the last time you had your transmission serviced?

backlife2 hit on the money, just because the plugs and wires are new doesn't mean they are good,GM motors run better with Delco parts and it sounds like your trans may need looking at.

I have the same problem. Replaced plugs, coils, ignit module, computer, cam/crank sensor, injectors tested. Still has the problem. Many say it is NOT the torque convertor or trany. Am looking at doing a running compression test. These engines have been known to have a broken valve spring that only shows up in cruise.

Re: torque convertor

if it is a 92 it is egr-less...this means on 92' 3.8s you get burnt valves way soon and other issues since the added heat in #6
