Power Windows

I have a 99 Durango which the driverside rear window sticks. The switch makes the window motor click but window won't move.

Re: Power Windows

hey o2
I've had the same failure on three out of the four power windows on mine. I've replaced the power window mechanism on the driver's window and the front passenger's window (have not done the driver's side rear window yet).
It's a dealer part, of course, not available from NAPA or anybody like that, at least to my knowledge.
It's plenty pricey, seems like about $140 apiece for the part....that's why I haven't done the third window yet!
Not too bad a task, at least it's non-engine work so it's clean hands!
Remove the door panel and have a look at it. It's not like the normal window winder with the ratcheting 'scissors' arrangement. It's a continuous metal cable setup. The problem could be a number of things, but what I've seen each time is a plastic piece near the bottom, which the cable rides on, breaks off. Could also be the motor is shot. Whatever the case, unfortunately you can't buy the motor only, nor the broken plastic piece, nor can you buy any of it separately. Gotta buy the entire $140 rig, (which is why I now have two perfectly functional, 12v window motors laying under my workbench).
Good luck.
Dave

99 Power Window Regulators

Hey Guys! All (4) of mine failed at least once, (some were replaced twice), and all were initially replaced by the dealer under warranty. Since then, I've replaced (2) myself, (about $100.00 each from the dealer if memory serves me. The replacements are slightly different, (new and improved???), and they provide a template to drill some new mounting holes for the bracket. I had never tackled this before the first time around so I ended up cutting the cable with a pair of side cuts to drop the window down. All said, a pretty simple job to change out once you figure out how the door trim panel pops off.
