94 Sable Tranny Problem

After driving a 600 mile trip where everything with the automatic tranny was working fine except for a speedometer problem (speeding ticket), I started the car to find that the tranny was in a forward gear no matter where the shifter was positioned (park, reverse, drive). The engines RPM's won't rev up normal. It's like something is stuck in a foward gear and not letting go. Does anyone have any info about this problem?

check your shifter linkage first.

Checking the shifter linkage was the first thing I tried. All gears are in drive, except for Neutral. Neutral is Neutral. It starts only in the park and neutral positions. I've only been starting it in Neutral as the transmission is already locked in a Drive position when starting it in Park. When in Neutral, the car is movable, free to roll. There is no Reverse. Car lunges forward when shifting from Neutral to either Reverse or Drive. There is no movement or sound when shifting to Park from Reverse.

If you refer to my post "Transmission" it did that to be when it died. It is a thousand dollar repair job. There is a metal piece (dont remember the nme) that switches the gears and it split in half causing it to stay in that gear no matter where I shifted it to. Mine always went reverse or neutral, never Drive. Maybe it is related to your prob? Hope it works out!

possibly the servo piston? that's what i'm having to change on mine next week. the part is like 30 bucks on ebay.
