Trying to decide between two cars.
2003 Mustang GT or 2001 Trans Am.
Which should I go with? Is either one faster/more reliable than the other? The Trans Am costs a bit more and has a few thousand more miles then the stang I'm looking at.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
Depends on what you want the car for: Daily driver: Mustang, if you're serious about racing: trans am. The trans am will be faster.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
Well my daily driver is a 97 sentra. I go to work and back in it. I use my cavalier only on the weekends, and maybe once during the week (my parents are taking over my payments on the cavi). So this car would only get maybe... 5k miles a year on it at most.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
as a race/weekend car, I think the TA would be more fun.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
Which engine is generally more reliable? The stangs on average seem to cost less and are easier to find with low miles, although after doing more research the bird looks like it would be faster. However I agree the stang looks better, and would probably get more chicks ;-)

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
they're both pretty reliable, the stang is a little easier to work on because its less shoehorned into the engine bay.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
Start that TransAm with the engine cold after sitting overnight. Most will knock pretty bad that I've seen. Piston slap. If you can live with this, it's a pretty decent car and very fast. Never cared much for the Mustang, just doesn't feel like a quality car to me. (make a lot of Mustang fanatics mad with that won't I?) Lots of kid sure love them though.

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
I would go with the TA. I think it looks better, and it has better preformance marks then a GT.
You can find a lot of Camaro Z28 with low miles, if you want a car that can compare to the TA. *Hope it helps* |

Re: Trying to decide between two cars.
The Trans Am is marginally faster in the quarter mile, but what's really important is how much faster it is when turns are involved. The 99-04 Mustang GT is riding on a 25-year-old chassis, and the suspension isn't all that great either. The Trans Am is one of, if not the fastest car in its Solo II class. Go with the Trans Am, especially because it only serves duty as a secondary vehicle (they're not very practical for daily driving).
