98 bug trunk

my trunk motor died the part is under warrenty but the want to charge me to break into my trunk, is there no emergency release?

If you can remove the rear pannel on the lid yo can manually pull the
cable to release the lock. There is a screw in each handle part and then it just simply pulls off (held on by alot of clips.)
