No Spark from coil
Hello,
I am new to this forum, and I am really noob when it comes to cars as well. my car is 4 door sedan, civic 87, carb, manual, it has 200k miles on it Here is what happened, I was trying to start my car and I could hear it trying to crank but the motor isnt catching up. After checking I found out that there is no spark coming out of the Coil, I tried to replace the coil but it didnt work, I checked the spark plugs which looked clean. I checked the distributor cap also clean. can someone please tell me what are the sequence of tests that I should do in the car to find out what the problem is ? and please if you can be detailed as possible with simple terms, I would really appreciate it. Thanks |

Re: No Spark from coil
With a carb'd car, it's a little hard to tell what the problem is, as there is no ECU to throw codes. I'd suggest pulling one of your spark plugs out and lay it on top of the motor. Leave the plug wire connected and have someone turn the key. *WARNING* If it's working right, it should spark alot. Otherwise, if it only sparks once, you could have a sensor problem. I had this problem when I first got my 87, although, it was because my camshaft wasn't turning... Anyways, there are three main things needed in order for combustion to happen: Air, fuel, and fire. Try to find which one you aren't getting and let us now.
