Angry Glof TDi 1997 Clutch Pedal

Hiya

Sorry to ask probably a very obvious Q. but can you help?
Yesterday i was driving my golf and put my foot on the cltuch but it went straight down and hit the floor never to come back up! I have no gearing now although i can be driven by staring in gear etc, There seems to be a little piece of metal that has a few spot weldd on it on it about 1/2 inch (uk) that has come away totally. The recovery guy had never seen this before and said maybe it looks a bit terminal. Thers no hydrolic fluid leaking or anything, i can't get to the garage as i n the UK it's a bank holiday. Any advice would be great, Happy new year too!

PS it's the original clutch and it done 113,000 miles

The 97 golf uses a cable clutch not a hydraulic like newer ones. Where is the piece that has come away? 113,000 miles is pretty good mileage on a original clutch! but I am sure it is time for a clutch job for sure. (new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and flywheel) about a $1000 job
