Unhappy Shifting problem

Hey, driving a 95 2door 5speed cavalier, lately i've been having problem with shifting. Going from first to second and second to third is mostly when the problem occurs. When i release the clutch the engine nearly stalls out, the rpms dropping drastically and some nasty noises can be heard, mostly a clink or two, and no matter how much gas i give the rpm's do not go up. I've been driving the car for months and have not had this problem before.

Also on the odd day, I will have problems starting the car, it cranks but doesn't light up, obviously fuel related, what could be replaced to fix this?
