Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
Well depending on outside feedback, or people who may have experience with this swap.. I would.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
The Supra engine is oriented lengthwise compared to the MR2 motor that is transversely mounted.
That equals really bad math. You would either need to lengthen the MR2 or invent a transmission (transaxle) that would accomodate the Supra engine sideways. Then you would have to widen the car. If you want 6 cylinders in the MR2, there V6 options which have a short length motor and are already designed to be horizontally oriented. There are MR2s in Japan with a widebody kit that have a V8 fitted as well.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
I wonder if it would be possible to expand the engine bay into the trunk area.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
The Supra engine is significantly longer.
If the engine goes back into the trunk, where's the tranny go? ... you would have to push the wheels back farther and make the whole car longer.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
i dont think youve ever seen a 2jz-gte with a tranny attachted on the floor next to a 3sgte
the only close thingi i can think of is legnthining the front and putting it there with custom dash and a short driveshaft and custom everything else |

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
mmmm im thinking those SARD things... the V8 Jeff mentioned.
they lengthened the middle of the car to put in the toyota v8, but still a v8 is a shorter motor than an I6. incidentally the 2JZ is just like the 3SG but with 2 cylinders and an extra turbo.... so do any of the V6's match the profile? 86X86 with a G head etc?

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
UMMMM WHY iRALL?
just and idea but make sure you understand the mr2 as it is before you worry about a major swap.... specially when you probably won't gain anything from it. having a v6 is largely a gimmick as the power you need can easily be produced by the 3sgte. theres a thread on v8 and v6 conversions in the archives ...have a read.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
Actually TRD, there is a great difference between a V6 and the 3SGTE ~ the power band.
You get a supercharged V6 in there and you are going to have much more torque and response than the 3SGTE will ever have. There is nothing gimicky about the V6. I promise ![]() A V6 MR2 won the SCC Ultimate Street Car Challenge ![]() lrall, check out mr2oc.com, they have a whole sub-forum on doing the swap.

Re: Twin Turbo supra motor.. Into an MR2??
There were two engine options for the MKII MR2 (in the US):
3SGTE = 2.0 liter turbo 5SFE = 2.2 liter non-turbo Both were "stock" engines. V8s? ... it is a fun idea, but a serious amount of work. The problem would be finding a racing venue that would have an appropriate class for it.
