Does anyone have a idea on how to get the engine hood open, the cable is broken.

I am assuming that the cable is still visible...? If it is, simply take a pair of pliers and pull it. POP

while we are on the topic, the Jetta that I will be getting has a problem with opening the hood. There was a recall done on 96 Jettas for the hood release and apparently the dummy who previously owned the car did not take it in to get it done. I have to have someone pull up on the hood while I pull the lver to open it. Any ideas?
