some old school flavor for you guys

I posted this in the 71-87 civic/crx forum bout i though i'd crosspost it here to give some of you a little old school Honda flavor.

This is my Weber'd EK1 swap into my 83 civic wagon. here is the recap of the mods i have done:
  • 1983 Civic Wagon
    1.8l (1751cc) EK1 Block (honed and rebuilt)
    non-CVCC EL1 head (off canadian 1.6l motor)
port & polish with 3 angle valve grind, deck shaved 20 thousandths
272º cam (medium grind, 260º stock)
    14lb flywheel
Dual sidedraft Weber DCOE40 carbs on custom manifold
4-2-1 F-series header adapted to fit
2.25" exhaust w/free flow muffler, no cat.

the swap was not without it's headaches, i ran into many problems and even faced the possibility that i fried the new rings on initial start up. luckily that was not the case as i have put about 1200 miles on it and the compression tested above stock. another one of the annoying problems was losing power on the highway after 10 minutes of driving, turned out to be a clogged fuel filter, runs fine now. i still have an alternator issue to deal with tho. good bye good gas mileage, i have been averaging 20mpg since the swap
here is a pic of the new red beast. for those who are curious, the gage is a fuel pressure gage to make sure my pressure regulator is performing properly, it's correct more or less but has some funny tendencies. in order to fit the filters on i had to remove the brake bake booster which required fabbing up a plate to mount the master cylinder onto and lengthening the pedal pushing rod into the MC.

man, that's rockin cool. I love the styling on those beats. There's a guy at my school rockin out an ek1 (I'm assuming that's the chassis code for that model?) hatch with rota c8s on it >_< looks off but kinda cool to see none-the-less. I have absolutely no idea if he's done anything at all under the hood though.

Re: some old school flavor for you guys

ek1 is the engine code of the block i used. it's the 1.8l accord motor from the same generation. the current engine coding system (ie, D16A1 or whatever) didn't start till 86

Re: some old school flavor for you guys

Damn those Weber side-drafts bring back some oooooooold memories. Do you know what kind of numbers (hp) you're putting out?

Re: some old school flavor for you guys

not yet, needs some tuning still, later this year i will get it onto a dyno and find out. the stock EK1 only has 75hp but that motor has a CVCC head on it. the head i'm using is much better flowing. i'm expecting it to do 110~120 at best
