Cold Air Intake

I am looking to put a cold air intake or short ram air into my 2002 2 door coupe Grand Am. If there is any one who could give me some information about which is the best to use and also what changes would need to be made to the on board computer, i would be very greatfull. So far i have found the Weapon R Short ram dragon series. how would this affect the onboard computer?

Re: Cold Air Intake

Shouldn't affect the computer. You might gain 1-2 HP from this mod. Good luck.

Until I see dyno proof, I will stick with my 1-2 HP theory. Might be more, which would be great. I just personally don't see it adding much more than a couple ponies.

Maybe I am low-balling because I go off dyno numbers. Which isn't what aftermarket parts manufacturers give you for estimated gains.

Re: Cold Air Intake

I'm also looking to remove the governor and put on a performance muffler... any comments on how and which is best? I just came to the states from South Africa and do not have much knowledge about Pontiacs. My previous car was a Supra.

Re: Cold Air Intake

I saw a 12 hp gain from the CAI. I also have a good bit of internal work done as well so that could contribute. What motor do ya have? I could give ya some links for CAI. Also there is no governor in the sense you're thinking. You have to have your computer reprogramed. I could give ya more info once ya post which motor.

Re: Cold Air Intake

i'm not as informed on the 2.4L. Try out pfyc.com. I'm not sure if they carry much stuff for that engine. Hit up some jbody forums. They'll be of much help to ya. LUOS yes that is dyno proven. I have multiple other engine mods. Check em out here. http://www.rankmyride.com/?page=cars/specs&CID=250

Re: Cold Air Intake

Also the cold air gets warmed by the throtle body, there are coolant lines runing through it. I have the 62mmTB and I just bypassed these lines by connecting them together. Thought winter would give me trouble, but it didnt.
