slight hesitation

ok, heres the deal, 1992 PA supercharged.
i got a cone filter and the restrictor thingy in the intake of the SC snout removed.

the car accelerates furiuosly from stop, but around 70 MPH at 3600 RPM in third gear, i get a slight hesitation that disapears at 4000 and beyond at wide open throttle... if i let go the pedal a little the hesitation stops...

it was -20 degress celsius when it happened today

i got new pugs and new wires ( bosch) and a new fuel filter.

could it be TOO much cold air?

anybody got an idea?

I would say the cold temp's would probably have something to do with it, the fluid in the harmonic balance is probably thicker cause more of a vibration. I would just let it be till it warms up and see if it goes away.

Re: slight hesitation

ok,

newbie question here, wheres the harmonic balancer and what fluid is there in it? i dont even know what this thing looks like. i thought it was more like a balancer shaft like in a camry 5S-FE engine or a eagle talon.. although they have 2..

and why would it make this hesitation? knock sensor? maybe?

i changed the ox sensor yesterday.. it was the original one so i THINK it was time for a new one..it seems to still do it.. -20 degrees on icy roads is not the time to crank up the PA to 90 MPH.. so i cant test it much.

O2

Replacing the O2 should take care of any hesitation. Check the mass air flow sensor also, plus check the hose before the mass airflow sensor for any cracks. Faulty O2 gives the injectors the wrong signals.

Re: slight hesitation

yeah well i installed a bosch one , as i did to my previous cars and they work well.. im gonna clean and inspect my mass air flow tomorrow. it's really strange that it would do that hesitation ONLY in third gear and around 3500 RPM..it still pulls alot but since i got a cone filter i can hear the SC whine alot and you hear it missing... just like my foot was shaking on the pedal...but its not... beyond 4000 it goes away till speed limiter kicks in...which may disapear in spring.. as i have found a way to disable it as well as the security system so no more keys with a resistor in them..and add 25 HP while im there

any tips on how to clean inspect the MAF ?

Re: slight hesitation

Deadring,

How did you find a way to disable the speed limiter. I had been told that it was impossible. Please fill me in if you know how, it would be really neat!

Re: slight hesitation

oh thats an easy one, i dont know how to do it myself. but i found a guy that sells an eprom for the ECM with remapped fuel, no speed limit, and no more VATS.. oh and it gives 24 HP typical gain and you have to put in a 160 degrees thermostat...

anyways that what he says.

the chip is 120$ and you install it yerself.. as of what i've seen, its rather easyand comes with instructions of course... i MIGHT do it this spring...

but the thing i like about the guy is the fact he can remove or lower the speed limits and disasble the VATS at no charge ( no more chipped 40$ keys) and as for the remapped fuel , well im not sur i would take it.. but the guy says he has a monay back garantedd and will refund you FULLY , shipping included!

so i might take the risk

Deadring, I would leave it alone till it warms up. its probably just the weather temp, and could be crappy fuel from somewhere.. Run a nice bottle of K200G though the motor.. should be fine.. available at advanced auto parts and others.

Re: slight hesitation

wellllllllll its back again...

but i think i know what makes it do that, it's the cold temperature. it was -14 F outside when it did it..

but a warmer temps like around 32 it's ok...so im guessing that since i took out the restrictor thingy out of the SC snout and put in a high flow cone filter, it muist have something to do with it,

any of you had similar problems? of have a explanation?
