what the hell was that?!?!? holes???

Not driving my trans am too much these days cuz of the cold NY winters and the fact that i need a clutch and am too broke to fix it now. So it really sucks ass putting along under 3 grand so it won't slip. Anyways, i figured it would take it out for new years.
Im driving back home the next night after crashing at my buddies house. Im terribly hung over and the girl i brought with me won't shut up about being late for work. Im almost home when i see this civic hatch merge just infront of me. Didn't look like much, but it had your classic goya can exhaust. It also had HUGE holes carved out of the rear bumper??? Like 6 or 8 of them. The girl in my passenger seat is laughing hysterically as we are discussing what they are for. Maybe he wants to put in hella lights in the near future for super hill climbs in reverse? LOL, well the only thing i could think of is he is trying to save weight.
This guys car was a peice of shit--he tried to show off when he saw me by dumping it in first and flooring it but all he did was alost hit the car in front of him and nearly smash his face against his windshield. Not too mention i think he uses left over turkey scraps for fuel because of the amount of smoke comming out of the exhaust. Needless to say, i didn't bother playing with him. I prob still woulda killed him with my blown out clutch, but i would a puked all over myself after from being hung over.

Those are speed holes man.. they add 10HP for each hole. Depends on the size though. LOL The first time I saw someone with those on their civic I laughed so hard. In the pic above.. all those civic hatches had the holes, along with the integra.. but all of them were running 10's and 11's.. heh

I believe the are called Diffusers. Supposedly, many drag racer's use them to decrease wind resistance. I'm not exactly a drag professional, but that's what I know about them. Late...

That is sort of correct. Some people just remove the rear bumper, some cut holes in it. Either way it is to reduce drag, either way it is really stupid looking, and either way it’s just plain stupid to do on a street vehicle.

Diffusers are a little different, they are not only for reduced drag but their main purpose is to maintain stability at high speeds.

Re: what the hell was that?!?!? holes???

wow...I've seen the samething. about two or so weeks ago this guy in a green 96-00 civic hatchback kept following me around trying to get a light with me...he'd get up beside me and take off and of course I'd just sit there and laugh...so as he passed me I noticed all acrossed his rear bumper were circles..i was like wtf...so we came up to a red light and I pulled up slow so I could examine these 'circles'...they were holes like..cut into his bumpers? i was like what the hell. so i pulled up to the light and was trying to get his attention so I could ask him what the deal was. but he wouldn't look...i just heard him rev it up and hold it at whatever rpm..so I knew he was going to try to launch and race me so, light turns green i slaughter him by a mile...we come up to another light and he turns off. It's still a mystery as to why he thought it'd be helpful to cut about 10 huge holes in his rear bumper. oh well.

Yea, well you know, these 170HP Civics will be achieving 200 MPH, so they need to evacuate air from the underside really quick. Why do you think they have such large wings? Everyone knows Civics on P19570R14 tires go over 200MPH!

Disclaimer: (If you dont have a wing, or a 16 second car with these holes, dont say I'm a honda hater. I'm a rice burner hater.)
