Power Windows Problems (both)

Ok, I've searched this forum and applied almost all suggestions. Here's my issue with my power windows on my 1995 Firebird.

At first, the drivers side wouldn't go up. Going down was not a problem ever. But if I messed with the switch it would go up eventually. I wouldn't have to wait a few minutes as if the motor got hot. Just the switch.

Well I got a new motor just in case. The new motor does the exact same thing. It will go down, but not up. So I figure this is the switch itself. However, during my reassembly something must of gotten crossed. Now neither window will work. The passenger side will not go down. So I'm stuck with a drivers side window that is down all the way, and a passenger side window that is up. NEITHER WILL WORK.

Also, I've found that my remote for my keyless entry will not work either.

What can cause both windows to not work? I've checked fuses, but none look burned out and there isn't just one fuse for the windows.

Lastly, is there a way for me to manually get the window up so I can drive it? Its cold and rainy and its my only car. Help a fellow firebird driver in need won't you? Thanks a million.

I know its too late for this but the switch should have been your first repair as it is cheap and easy...but since you put the new motor in, have you put a new switch in yet? If not it still could be the switch. Also, does the passenger window go down from the passenger control? Or does it not work period? It sounds like something either got fried or a fuse blew...Id pull any and all fuses related to the windows and not just loom but test them with a test light or multimeter for continuity. I have a diagram for a 1994 Trans-Am and in that year they still had a 30 amp window breaker...might want to try and replace that once youve checked for shorts or miswiring somewhere in what youve replaced. If the connector is hooked up properly though and there is no exposed wiring, try that breaker.

What breaker and where is it located at? I'm not a mechanic but I can use a wrench. As for fuses, there aren't any labeled for the window specifically.

Inside the car in the under dash/side of dash fuse box...in the diagram i have for a '94 it is the second from the bottom on the far right of the fuse box...its right above the radio fuse in this model and below the defog/seats breaker.

Ok, I've looked. Don't see any "circuit breakers" but just the fuses. The one listed for the windows is a 30amp aluminum one. No way to check that out is there? And no, I don't have a multimeter.

OK, I've checked the fuses. They all are fine.

I did manage to manually get my window closed now so I can drive it. But I'm still stuck with windows that will not go up or down, and my radio won't work either. Whats the common denominator for these problems? Thanks

Went to autozone and one of the guys said it could be a relay. Fine, which relay and where? haha And to top it off he said the only way to be sure was to just replace it and see if that works.

Is he for real?

unfortunately if you dont have a multimeter, just replacing the electrical parts one by one may be the only way to fix this problem. That aluminum box was the circuit breaker for the windows too by the way...in regard to the previous post. Youll have to just replace that too if you think the problem is there. Luckily, these parts are fairly cheap. As far as where the relay is, I don't know, you really should get a wiring diagram for your car or some kind of repair manual with diagrams in it. It will save you a lot of time hunting down this problem.

Thanks Jason, but I've taken the side of the door off enough times already I can do it with my eye's closed. I can even take the motor out and back in, in about 30 minutes. I'm sure either I've blown a relay or something else along those lines.

I just don't know what in common the windows and the radio have. Since now neither work.

Well I've got it all fixed up thanks to the help of Shoebox (http://www.shbox.com).
At first it was my drivers window switch that was bad. And through all of my ill concieved tinkering, I managed to short out the RAP module (Retained Accessory Power). So I replaced the switch and then I took a look at the RAP module. To check this, I unplugged the module and jumpered wires B and D. Everything worked fine then, but did not have the retained power. A new module would of cost between $60 and $100. So I opened up the module and found a burned trace. I just soldered a jumper wire across the burn and plugged it back in. Everything is up and working fine now.

Thanks to all of your suggestions. And a big thanks to Shoebox for the RAP suggestion.
