Reverse Problems

I have a 96 Saturn Sc2 and I put the car in reverse it takes like 5 seconds to actually kick in it seems like and sometimes I get a clunking noise when it starts reversing. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

valve bodies are stuck. usually happens around 85k. 750 to repair at the dealer.
