14 to 16 mpg
ok...so when i got my car the dealership put 87 gas in the engine...i flipped out because i only got like 8 mpg...now i have put 2 tankfuls of premium 91 and now i only get like 14 to 16 mpg...this is a combo like 1/2 and 1/2 city/freeway driving...the majority of the time i drive normal... and occasionally my heavy foot takes place...but its like 80% normal driving and 20% heavy foot but i still get crappy mpg...and the dealer said if the check engine light isnt on there isnt anything they will do about it...the only option they gave me was to bring the car back and let me pick out another one but i dont want to because i love my eclipse and yeah...
does anyone have any suggestions or know maybe what is causing this? |

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
a little bit of heavy foot driving can have a major effect on fuel economy. You'll have to do a long stretch of highway driving using Cruise Control to know for sure if there's a problem.

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
yeah heavy foot driving can kill your gas mileage. if i drive around town, the i get about 11 mpg, but on the interstate i get close to 25 mpg

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
also, flooring it in an auto and flooring it in a manual is two different things. with the manual, the gas seems to go away very fast

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
what the hell are doing. 8 miles to the gallon you might as well be driving a viper even they get 10 to the gallon and they have 4 cyclinders more than you

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
I know my car was running rich when I first got it. The MAP sensor was broken. It made my chrome tip black evertime I started it up. I was getting like 7 mpg.

Re: 14 to 16 mpg
he might be running rich. but that would probably throw a SES code. and he said theres no SES light. just a thought, take you gauge cluster off and make sure there is a light for the SES. i remember one of my friends got tired of his SES light coming on, so he just took the light out. i did the same thing with my seatbelt light
