At what stage would Water Injection be appropriate??
As many people are either researching / undergoing turbo conversions, i thought that this question may come in handy. I know the basics of a Water Injection system, what it does, but When would this system be appropriate?? At what power level??
Apart from 'Aquamist', who else makes similar systems?? links please

You need it when you want more boost but you don't want to open up your motor and get lower compression internals. Or if you're running on the ragged edge and you want a little piece of mind.

With proper tuning I don't see why not.

Old post for some info. I've installed many NOS systems, mostly on Jettas and Hondas/DSMs but people had no turbo/internal upgrades, they wanted cheap boost. Personally, I don't recommend it at all. But this are mostly all talk people who say "Yeah .. well, I want NoS for now, and I'll upgrade my internals later ..." Sure, why not take that 1200$ <CA> and save it towards a turbo system or internal upgrades. Anyways, it's their car. At least change the rods, valves. (especially the exhaust valves, weak) Both the rings and pistons are very sensitive to detonation. If you hear a tock tock noise when the throttle is applied, this is the symptom. I've seen this too many times in my life, and I'm only 20. If the valves, pistons, rings and rods are upgraded, the engine becomes much stronger. In fact, the bottom end itself is stronger than that of the turbo. This is how I work it ![]() Once you have your turbo properly tuned, ECU programmed. Wait a while before doing more mods, and see how the engine runs. Then check the engine for leaks, etc... Then gradually, I'd upgrade the stock internals, get a new performance clutch, very important. ONLY then would I add 50 shot nos to start with and test it on the 1/4 mile. But if you use NoS casually, and you have upgraded internals, it's all good, safe, and wise. Your car will be perfect. Just my .o2 cents.

From what I've seen of turboed SR20DE's or DET's I'd say: -Up to 275whp dont worry about it -275whp to 300whp, I'd concider it -300whp to 350whp, I'd get it just to be on the safe side -350whp+ get it. Like I've said before, people have run turbo'd DE's over 400whp with *stock* internals and water injection. |

275whp to 300whp
Logic, to get this boost, you'll have changed internals. Same difference. It's common logic, you don't want detonation, thus, if you have a turbo, you NEVER add nos until your car is pretty much bullet proof, all upgraded internals. If not, then you're just killing your pistons, and your valves will get damaged, or melt. And the question is not at what power gains, the question is HOW much `shot' of NOS for the engine mods you have, and also how much PSI you are running. More compression mixed with NoS = EXCESSIVE HEAT Or you can run an advanced system to kill turbo lag, your nos kicks in from applied throttle to 2000 RPMS, then the turbo kicks in after lag. Many people have this advanded setup. Nos is at your own risk, it's never 100% safe, so make sure your internals can handle the heat. And there is also the question, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Always a risk, be smart, be wise. Very simple.

Something about running out of water at the wrong time just scares me. I know it doesn't use a lot but still. |

NOS are for civic monkeys who holds a banana thinking it is a wrench! G owners with NOS are also monkeys.

Hey guys, BIG thanks for the info, very helpful. I'll have to read it through again so it sinks in.

So Basically...
Once again 100,000 questions
![]() When i get my turbo kit, with all the mods b-boogie gave me, I could just slap on the water injectors temporarily,(until i get more cash flow for the internals) push that 300hp to my stock internals and i would be fine? Not really clear on water injection, how much does that set up usually cost? what is the durability? stability? what is the usual time period water injectors last? What is the whole process of the injector, how do they work???
