!993 S-10 Blazer starting issues
I have a 93 S-10 Blazer, with 89K miles on it. Has 4.3 Vortex, vin "W". I bought this 18 months ago, with 64K miles on it. Tuned up @ 66K, plugs, dist cap, wires, filters, andso forth. Have kept watchful eye on it and havd had no problem until this week. After going to the store I found it would not start. Would not even hit, making me think either no gas or ignition was present. Left truck for 2 hours, and thenwhen I returned it started right up and I took it home. Could not duplicate this at home letting it idle, so ran it a few miles down the road the next day, and then it stalled twice. The last time while idleing it would not start. This time I had some starting spray, and was able to get it to hit wit that. No fuel, aparently.Again, after 3-4 hours I tried again and ran OK. This time I drove it to a local mechanic and had the fuel pump replaced, along with another filter. I did not do a pressure test, and this fellow mostly does simple repairs such as brakes and exhaust. It is doing better, but not totally fixed. Stalled out twice today, however did restart both times, after about 20-30 seconds. I am suspicious of 1- fuel pressure regulator, 2- pump relay, and 3- fuel injection assy. I have not taken off the plenum at this time. I have noticed that the truck while dependable has had a rich smell and did not have the power I thought it would have, but had never owned a Blazer so was unsure if this was fact. Again, had been a dependable truck. Any thoughts on this? Gets around 20 miles to gallon, so I don't THINK it is leaking in plenum, but anything is possible.
Note: truck does not stall unless idleing. I have noticed 3 times on the interstate that the truck "missed" for a brief second, after the fuel pump was installed. Did not do this the last 20 or so miles. |

Re: !993 S-10 Blazer starting issues
Replace the CPI injector and the nut kit.

Apprciate your quick response. have never fooled with fuel injection. Are you refering to all the injection stuff under the plenum? I see from my book ( I have Haynes and GM manuals) that there is a central "unit" with various hoses and pressure switch. Any idea how costly this would be, and how difficult would you rate this? I think I can pull it off, but again, I have never worked with fuel injection. Working with anything with fuel concerns me. Again, thanks a bunch!!

Re: !993 S-10 Blazer starting issues
Check out my experience here:
Buy the injector off of ebay. Buy the nut kit from your local dealer. Buy the plenum gasket from your dealer. Here is the link to my work on it: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/showth...pi+replacement

Re: !993 S-10 Blazer starting issues
Sorry to sound stupid, but what is this "nut kit" you refer to? Don't see what this is. I see the assy offered on Adbance's site @ 270 dollars, but cannot find anything on a nut kit. Thanks for Ebay suggestion, I use them a lot.

Re: !993 S-10 Blazer starting issues
The nut kit is the white fuel line kit that supplies fuel to the injector.
It is also prone to failure from the plastic hardening and cracking. Best to replace them when you do the injector so everything is covered and you won't have it blow on your in the future.

Thanks for your help! I see a new assy on Ebay for $230 (GM), so I am going for one of these (this guy on Ebay has eight of these, brand new, freight paid) and see what happens.
