turbo 79 caprice
What do you guys think of a turbo kit for a 79 caprice, I also want to ask do you thimck s-10 small block headers would fit in a caprice, turned forward, because that is where the turbo would sit in front of engine, the radiator would have electric fans of course.

Re: turbo 79 caprice
The turbo will help, but a buddy of mine did it to his 82 impala, and he threw a rod. If you've got a 305, I wouldn't advise it.

Re: turbo 79 caprice
Get a new 350 (they come w/4-bolt mains), and then you've got a good base to start building from.
There's plenty of room under there for a turbo and an intercooler. |

What does 4-bolt or 2-bolt main mean? Does it have somehting to do with the cranshaft bearings? I heard the term used before.

Re: turbo 79 caprice
Crankshaft bearing caps.
The LS-1 engine has 6 bolts. When you're running boost, you're putting a lot of strain on the rotating assembly. The LM-1 engine (about $1400) for a long block is a brand new engine (not remanufactured, it's all new). I think that's the route I'm gonna take w/my 84 wagon w/305 |
