97 I30 Won't start just hear buzz and pops
I was driving my I30 home and it started to surge at a stop light. When I got it into the garage it seemed to be running ok, maybe ideling a little fast. I shut it off and attempted to start it again and nothing happened. I heard a buzz from the back of the engine on the passenger side and then some pops from the middle of the engine. That's it, it didn't even try to turn over. I just had a new starter put on it about a month ago so that's not it. Any ideas?

New or remade? New is ok, remade seldom... Measure the +12V from the motor solenoid (supply wire from battery, under rubber 'boot') as someone starts. If u get all the time full voltage, starter is kaputt. - Otherwise, main ground bad, maybe. - Or the starter motor solenoid [u hear clunk if it works] does not get +12V as u turn the key: a. gearbox inhibit switch or b. its relay stuck or c. bad ign sw. See my homepage for it the gnd, gearbox/starter wiring from schematics: Maintenance Manual Online: http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/Ui...&Parameters=004 http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1

U have to open/replace it. They sell also only solenoids... Quite often hitting the solenoid or the starter endplate(some tool & hammer?, wife turning the key to start pos) the contact will be realized... ---> still theres the possibility that batt cablin/grounding is oxidized and voltage drops at starter motor to 6V or less as u start. Test the voltage with 10$ multimeter. Test. Yes. Most important: Happy New Year! Car does not matter, destination does...
