Strange sportronic problem

I recently purchased a 2002 eclipse with the sportronic tranny in it. The problem that i am having is that it will not shift into the sports mode. It drives normally in D, but the shifter wont go to the right to engage sports mode. Is there something that im doing wrong or is it indicative of a transmission problem? Please remember that im a newb to eclipses, so please be kind.
Thanks in advance!

Mobius

Re: Strange sportronic problem

Pull off the center concil, and see of there is like a penny or sonthing jemmed in there. If you need instructions pulling the center concil just let me know. It not going over into Sport-Tronic mode has nothing to do with the transmission being bad. It is all electronic, and no physical connection from the shifter to the transmission.

Thanks alot, that was exactly the kind of thing i was hoping to hear.

I would certainly appreciate the instructions on how to remove the center console. I just got the car and i have to say that the previous owner seemed to do an outstanding job at maintaining the car. I certainly don't want to make any mistakes on a car i intend to own for awhile.

I'll post my results for the forum to see.

You can shift from auto to sports whenever you want on the fly.

You can change anytime you want, while driving, stopped at a light or in traffic, etc.

Re: Strange sportronic problem

Yeah treat it just like a manual... Shifting into neutral whenever I want to coast, and slamming it into 1st whenever I fell like kiling that 6cyl mustang next to me.
