wants to keep running when key is turned off
Hello,
My father in law left my son a 87 el camino that wants to keep running when the key is turned to the off position. Also it seems like the fast idle stays on too long. Is it time for a new carb? Thanks Chris |

Re: wants to keep running when key is turned off
Sounds to me like it is dieseling. There should be an idle screw on the accelerator linkage on the driver side. Is the automatic choke not functioning properly? Also I think the Elcamino has an Idle stp solenoid in front of the linkage (looks like a mini barrel with a plunger thing in it) Many times those solenoids go bad and the thing will run like crap. My 71 Monte carlo had the same problem your sons Elcamino has. Make sure all vacuum lines are hooked up and everthing is free and not binded up. Good Luck and happy new year
