Unhappy Car became a gas hog

I have lost almost 100 miles of driving recently. I have not added anything new to my car. Everything i have is on the bottom of this post. What can be the problem??? ANd also, when i press on the gas, my fuel gauge flunkuates, it will go down a little bit and when i press the brake, it goes back up. Is that normal?? I dont think it is. Please help. I am loosing gas!

Re: Car became a gas hog

if you are losing 100 miles per full tank on an obd2 vehicle, you must have a code at least.

Re: Car became a gas hog

I would check the filter and spark plugs to start with. After that, i would check the code. The gas guage will fluxuate like that normally...at least it does in my car. I have a 97 EX and get about 23-25 mpg in the city...what does yours get??

Re: Car became a gas hog

if bad gas mileage is your problem, go with the scheduled maintenence first. follow the guidelines in your vehicle book.

not really. i never noticed any drastic changes in my gas mileage with an SC, turbo, or any other major mods. bad gas mileage is due to maintenence problems or bad fuel management systems. if you are getting 200 miles to the full tank, you are saying you are at about 18 miles per gallon, which suggest you have some problems with your fuel system. basic maintenence should be the first step if you do not feel any performance effects of your decreased gas mileage (tire pressure, fuel filter, air filter element, ignition timing, etc).

Forced Induction Is An Exception To Fuel Consumption, And To Emissions, If Ur Burning Alot Of Fuel, Ur Tanks Gonna Go Empty Fast, My A/f Is Rich Constantly Anytime I Touch The Gas, And Leans Out When Im Off, Thats Because Of The Ecu, U Can't Get Power With Out Using Gas, If Ur Car Was Stock, Then U Would Have A Problem

Re: Car became a gas hog

i would have though forced induction would lower your mpg especially a SC. but you due need to run higer octane with F/I.
definatly keep your fluids maintained and your tire at proper psi.

Re: Car became a gas hog

Super Chargers Put Out Better Emissions Than A Turbo, But Forced Inductions Burns "all The Gas" It Uses

looking at your post above, i belive you are trying to compare a stock vehicle vs a force induction system that uses a fuel management system of some kind. please elaborate on what your trying to say, im just very interested.

If you are using a narrowband AF gauge, then, your better off closing your eyes and guessing whether your running rich or lean. It does however do a good job at telling you when your o2 sensor is out

How is force induction an exeption? i believe what your trying to say, is, with force induction, you need more fuel to compensate for the air mixture. you do this with larger injectors or controlling the fuel pressure. If you dont properly control your injectors or fuel pressures, they will not operate correctly, which will lead you into rich or lean mixtures. Even using 440 and 550 injectors at 85% duty cycles, i never had much difference in gas mileage. its all in the tuning. Moving into the higher injector levels will significantly change your gas mileage though.

Re: Car became a gas hog

If Hc's Are Through The Roof, Then Ur Cars Not Burning All The Gas, Forced Induction Requires More Gas, Which Means The Gas In Your Tank Is Being Used Faster Than Pre Fi. Wideband Is A Must, Autometers A/f Gauge Is Just A Bunch Of Led's And Resitors , If He Modified His Stock Civic With Aftermarket Parts, His Mpg Will Go Down
