A bad U joint will usually "pop" while putting the car in reverse, or going from reverse to drive. Thats a warning sign they are about to go out. With the amount of vibration your talking about, it really sounds like anything, but probably something in the driveshaft area. Maybe a broken motor mount or possibly somehting as stupid as an egged tire, but that wouldn't make the SES light come on. Look in your manual. It should tell you what a "flashing SES" light means as opposed to one that stays on constantly. Could possibly be somthing in the fuel where the cars getting it irregularly and its causing the car to "shake", but you would notice bad performance. As everyong else said, wait on the code to come out (even though you could have got the codes pulled for free at autozone in a few minutes =) and get back to us.

Re: vibration?
a flashing SES light only means that the proplem is happening again. i had that problem with mine when i had a melted plug wire. seriousely check your plugs and wires. thse sound exactly like the symtoms of the fireing system. (assuming from your name) you have a 98 camaro possiable an ls1. you got luckie it wasnt the "opticrap" like on lt1 systems. i'm just fearin the day that breaks on my baby.
