2000 Accent P1128 error code

Hello,
Have a 2000 Accent with Check Engine Light. Code is P1128. I've been to the HMAservice.com site and read the possibilities. Anyone have any experience with this code? It did just pass the PA state inspection and emissions test with the light on....garage said emissions okay...suggest possible Mass air flow sensor...or perhaps embedded code from years ago and problem may not exist now? Appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

Arrow check engine P1128 possible fix

Update...Disconnected Battery for about an hour and this cleared the "check engine" light, which Advance Autoparts had scanned for me and the scan disclosed a P1128 error. So for now....problem is fixed. Possible old error and computer needed reset? We'll see how long it lasts!

Thumbs down check engine returns...

Bummer...check engine light came back on after a few days of driving it....assuming its the P1128 code again. I guess I'll make an appointment with the local Hyundai Dealer. Don't have the time or expertise to do much more troubleshooting myself. Any other thoughts/suggestions???

Code is for a lean condition. Could be a few things, but more than likely it is a mass air flow sensor. Could also be timing is off or an exhaust leak. If it does end up being a mass air flow sensor, it is pretty easy to replace yourself. Let your dealer check it out, and go from there.

Thanks for the reply lowsonoma, I was starting to wonder if anyone else was out there in Hyundai Land! Yes, I'm resigned to taking it to local dealer. We just bought the vehicle from a local used car lot....thought we got a good deal, but I'm getting a little concerned now....we didn't buy the extended warranty, so I hope it's nothing major. Will post the final outcome.

Mazdatech and lowsonoma....Thanks for the replies....you're both correct. Local Hyundai dealer found P1128 to be the Mass air flow sensor, then there were 2 other codes...don't remember exact codes, but I believe they ended in 300 and 301. 300 indicated random misfires and 301 indicated cylinder one consistent misfire due to bad plug or wire. The dealer wanted $270.00 for the maf sensor!! ouch!! scouted around...NAPA has them for $105.00. Found one in local salvage yard for $75.00 that has 45K miles on it. Will replace all of the above myself and re-post the final verdict.

So far, so good. Replaced plugs/wires. Replaced maf sensor about a week ago and no more "check engine light" (P1128 errors)

Re: 2000 Accent P1128 error code

I too have a 2000 Accent with that same fault code. After following the advice in this thread, I took the MAS off. The parts store did not have one bu tthe guy suggested cleaning the sensor. I did along w/ unhooking the battery to reset the fault. It didn't last long before the fault came back. I'll probably be stuck buying a used one. I'll keep you posted. I have to get it done within the month before emmission testing!

Panubbin, cleaning your MAF was a good idea, if you clean i right. i ran into the same problem when i was installing a new intake, my friend said clean it off before we put it back together. so i did, and ruined it. your best bet is to do what he did and get one either new, or second hand to replace the one you got now.

Re: 2000 Accent P1128 error code

hey there well about your 2000 accent, have you tried cleaning your iac motor?.. giving the car a good throtle body cleaning and doing a intake service can help the performace of the car... these accents are a interferance engine meaning if your timming is out you can damage the engine, by bending the push rods and or valves... you'll know if that happens.. give it a try and let me know... later
