Unhappy 92 E34 Tumbler or steering lock problem...

Hello
I have a '92 BMW 525i E34 Automatic.

Key turns in the ignition but won't start the car. The key was stuck the other day and I got it out, but may have broken off a 'security tab' inside. Now I can't unlock the steering wheel and can't remove the tumbler the look inside. I have the dash all apart, how can I fix this? Been posting on Roadfly, can't get the tumbler out though, but not sure if I'm doing it right either, Please help!!

Re: 92 E34 Tumbler or steering lock problem...

When these tumbler/steering locks break as yours have, getting the tumbler out can be impossilbe without disecting the steering lock WHICH is to no avail as the "security" tabs on the tumbler break anyway...........lousy design.........I replace the tumbler and the steering lock assembly.........the tumbler, to be coded to your car must be Dealer ordered and will take a few [several] days. Wish
I had an easier solution for you at years end but lifes little challanges make it interesting, don't they?
best to you and stay in touch........................jb.

That's what I figured happened. I have everything apart. Next would be to remove the lock and everything with it. Anyway to hot wire it after I get the lock off? I can jump the starter to turn over from the back of the switch, but not to stay running. Towing would be $80 to the shop. At least it decided to break after I already got home and not in the Blockbuster parking lot where I first started having a problem.
