My Maxima doubles as a boat, who knew?

As a lot of you may now, all of California is underwater right now for the most part. Well last night after the 4th or 5th day of non-stop rain, the major street flooding began. My friend and I were coming back from my other friend's house at about 2 am from playing poker...there was standing water everywhere in places where there should be. Well I get back to his house, and then head home in my own car...unfortunately, part of the road that I have to drive on is a well-known flood plain. To make a long story short, I nearly drowned my car....I had to drive through about 1/2 a mile of standing water with water splashing up over my car onto the windsheild in such large quantities that my windshield wipers couldn't handle the amount of water coming in, and I couldn't see jack shit for about 45 seconds...lucky it was 2 am, the road isn't very busy anyway...it was definitely scary, I wouldn't know what I would have done if I had gotten stuck in that lake in the middle of the road. To make things worse, I went and checked the engine bay of my car this morning, and there is mud and water EVERYWHERE...fuckers at the tire shop ripped off my splashguard while they were replacing my CV halfshaft...so now I fear that water got sucked into the intake manifold, which would mean instant death for my engine...I guess only time will tell.

no you shouldn't have to worry about it that, only worry about your engine getting hydro locked when your actually under water. if your car didn't stall out when you were submerged. it will not stall out from water when its out of the water.

what i would worry about is water getting into your electrical harness. just keep the car running for a good long time and let the heat dry up all the water in the engine bay.

Re: My Maxima doubles as a boat, who knew?

Should I worry about the mud and dirt and crap in there? I was thinking about taking a garden hose to the radiator today...

no don't flush the mud with water. don't ever spray an engine bay with water on purpose, you'll do more harm then good. just take a brush and brush off hte mud, and wipe them off clean with a towel or something.

just pressure wash under the hood to get rid of the mud, it will be fine, just make sure to cover your alternator and intake with a plastic bag

Although covering the alt and intake, I would still recomend not washing underneath...If anything just rag clean it.

haha funny you say that, when my buddy and I were driving through all the standing water and streams flowing across the road he was all "dude, it's just like the day after tomorrow!"....weird.

Re: My Maxima doubles as a boat, who knew?

you geussed it. I used to love water. now i hate it wil a passion. we got a heavy rain recently and it filled the back yard back up to a good half shin deep.

Oh and if your engine continued to run after you got out of water you should be fine. if you are worried jsut prop the hood open and let all the mud cake. take your airfilter out and see if it is wet and then brush all of the dirt out.

Re: My Maxima doubles as a boat, who knew?

Man am I glad I live in UTAH. Beautiful mountains, hardly any snow, or rain for that matter. Guess what, no hurricanes, tidal waves, or earthquakes. This pleases me. Late...
