Question about lifters

i've had a lifter tapping, and i put marvel mystery oil in hoping it would help but it hasn't, my question is with it tapping will it do any more damage or will it just get louder? and should i go ahead and replace it like soon or not worry about it at the moment?

Are you sure it is a lifter ticking and not an exhaust leak by the head? They sound a lot alike.
First thing I'd do is find which lifter it is and then see if the nut for that rocker has backed off, try adjusting it.

Re: Question about lifters

lifter ticking is normal except if its realy noticable. i noticed that on my caar but it turned out i had a loose sparkplug. check your plug or it might blow out. and its not that easy to fix.

Use a hose to narrow down which rocker arm it is while the cars running. When you figure that out, pull the valve cover off and try adjusting the rocker arm. Most of the time that will cure it. If that doesnt fix it, you will need to replacements. And over LONG periods of time, if a lifter is tapping very badly, it can wear a flat spot in your cam, then that will have to be replaced as well, but thats the worst case scenario.

Re: Question about lifters

yeah, i agree with Rob, adjust your rocker arms, to try and correct the situation. the ticking sound you hear is metal on metal contact, so the louder it gets, the harder the metal is hitting, so yes, the louder it gets, the worse it is for your engine.
