Re: blackout lights?

in michigan yes they are legal, as to avalibility for the headlights, what year? first or second gen? fist gen you can get (97 and older) and im not sure on the second gen, (98 +) the grill is plastic, take it off (or tape off EVERYTHING) and paint it with Krylon *make sure its krylon* color paint for plastic, its about 3.50 a can us... dont cover the plate, tech, yes its legal, cops could pull you over and give you a ticket for obstruction and by the time you fight it to a majistry youve payed the ticket anyways, just keep away from it.

Re: blackout lights?

As long as the grille has been painted(I'm sure it has),you can use anything to paint it not just the Krylon.Just be sure to scuff it first.

Yes, you do need a license light. Yes, you can get a ticket for doing anything that interferes with a police officer's view of your license plate, including smoke-colored covers.

You may not understand yet, but you're just asking for a world of trouble from every police officer you see. Why would you go to all the trouble to conceal your truck's features, especially at night, unless you had something to hide? If you so much as fart too loud at a stop light, you'll have every cop for a mile around standing in line to see how many charges they can rack up on you.

It's their job to investigate unusual or suspicious vehicles. I'd say that a blacked-out truck with blackout lights, blackened license plates, etc. would qualify as suspicious. Unless you work for the CIA, drop the spy crap.

UPDATE: I see you live in Canada, so I can't say for sure what your laws are, but I know how a cop would react to your truck's proposed appearance.

Re: blackout lights?

stan the man pretty much has it to a t, im only 17 and ive realized that it doesnt matter what you do to your vehical, a teenager spending that kind of money on a vehical is suspicious in itselfe, keep it simple, its a first vehical, your not in the fast and the ferious, its not how things really go down being in canida, think about your first winter, you may not total the vehical but youll slide into something and put a dent somewhere, then all that money is put down the shit tube

Re: blackout lights?

well im wanting to do this for a reason because i love the lines of the s10 but i hate the large square lights so i am wanting to dull those features down to blend in with the truck (am looking at doing it black) i am looking at doing that or replaceing the lights with smaller slimmer lights but i dont know what to do with the front headlights (there are no aftermarket lights like apc's civic lights that turn the civic lights into 3 seperate lights) i am thinking about taking a trip down to the rcmp office in town and askign about doing covers for the lights (also is there a flip around licence plate cover (the corvette had one on the front for the plates) can that be put in so that when the truvk is parked i can turn the plate round and as soon as i turn the truck on it flips around?) can that be put on the rear of the truck?

also do i need a front plate or a rear plate for street use (only one plate) because i am wanting to get everything dark and a white and blue plate on the truck isnt realy cool

Re: blackout lights?

wow now your really asken for it with the hide away licenc plate *yes its verry doable) dude listen to me, im only 17 and, i have the newer body style so i dont have the squair headlights there rectangular, all i have done is tinted the windows, shaved the talegate, and clear corner and tale lights also a body kit and fiberglass cap, and ive already got cops followen me around, your reasoning is good, and i agree with you, but to a cop its still suspicious, every thing you want to do is verry achevable, except maby the 3 headlight deal, that i have not a clue, but honestly your asken for trouble, no one could tell me either, and if i hadnt put so much into the truck already i would have quit a long time ago, i got pulled over the other night and i now have a fix it ticket because the connection to my licence plate light is lose so it went out, didnt take much, but i guarentee without the money being put in the truck like it is i wouldnt of been pulled over, the guy followed me for 3 blocks for cryen out louad

Re: Re: blackout lights?

In the rear all black out covers are illegal because there is no red reflective surface.
In the front anything that covers your headlamps is illegal as well.

I understand why its illegal in the rear. but its kinda gay for the front if you ask me. w/e tho, heres the deal. most cops will just write you a ticket that you just show up for a court date and show the officer that you changed it. but truthfully. there not going to pull you over for it unless that have absolutly nothing better to do or you are speeding or doing something wrong. I have white outs all the way around my truck n i have been pulled over quite a few times. Never gotten a ticket because of them but i have been told they are illegal. so i guess its kinda up 2 the cop you get also.

Ebay has all the headlight and tail light covers you will need. good luck

Re: blackout lights?

what about covers? like the one for the dodge rams where it covers part of the taillights but leaves a rams head in the center of the light?
well for now i will be putting this truck on hold on account that i wasnt allowed to buy it (only 15) and my mother wont let me get a truck till im 16 (eventhough i am just getting a truck to work on! the one i was looking at had no engine for god sake! she is scared i am going to go driving with it before i get my licence!) but as soon as im 16 though im getting an s10 and doing as much as i can to it on my limited budget. is there a kit to swap out the headlights to a smaller more eye pleasing style?

LOL!Worried about the lights and the truck doesn't even have a engine. You need to get your priorities straight before you even buy a truck.

yeah you are jumping the gun big time. i was like you for awhile until i realized its costs like 38257455843 dollars to drive a car, let alone work on it. you dont need to be hiding all your stuff, and if you REALLY want to change part of it, a bodyshop can help you, assuming you have....$$$$$$$$$$$. you seem to be mising the point, as many of the things you want to to are not legal and will be a big pain in the ass when cops start ticketing you. why dont you just get some nice bright headlights so you can see where you are going...
