83 subaru gl stopped

1983 subaru Gl 1800 5 speed manual. 260,000 miles. I've been driving it since it had 50,000. Stopped running drving down road. No gas to carb.
Checked fuel filters. Disconnected electric fuel pump and wired to battery. Started pumping. Reconnected pump, turned engine over..nothing. No hum, vibration etc. Disconnected fuel line to carb., turned engine over and gas was pumping out. Why won't fuel go into the carb? For 6 mos. I've had to start car by using starter fluid. Once it started it drove fine, but I never could start car after it sat for a while unless I used starter fluid or gas to prime this thing. Any suggestions as to what to do next.
Thanks

Re: 83 subaru gl stopped

there are solenoids within the carburetor that meter fuel to the jets. look at all the electrical relatd to the carb and test the components with a volt meter and reference material for the volts and resistances
