02 Z71 5.3

I have an '02 Z71 w/ the 5.3 Vortec and an auto tranny. I have two questions. The shift from 1st to second is very rough. None of the other shifts are rough(2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th). It seems to shift better from 1st to second easier when I accelerate harder. The shift seems the worst when I accelerate very slowly. Any ideas what this could be??

Also, recently installed Sirius Sportster receiver in my truck. I am currently using the FM modulator to transmit to my speakers. But, I have noticed on my stock Delco AM/FM/single disc CD that there are two different input buttons. One button is labeled AM/FM and the other is CD/AUX. What is this AUX? Is there an input on this factory stereo for an external audio device? If not, why did GM label this CD/AUX and not just CD? If anyone knows anything about either one of these two items I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks!

Re: 02 Z71 5.3

All I can tell you about the first is that on my '04 5.3 I hear a clunk shifting 1-2 accelerating slowly, not a peep on higher RPMs/harder acceleration. Might try it in tow/haul later and see what happens.

As for your radio, I got an XM kit that plugs directly into the stock radio. The CD/AUX button puts on my single-cd player that is built in, and to switch to XM I press the band button a few times. I don't know if kits like these will work on the '02.. I have the package that it came in right here, and it says '03-up.

How did you access the stock radio? Did you have to pull it all the way out or does GM make it with easy access? If it is fairly easy to see the back of the stock stereo I would like to take a look at it.

Re: 02 Z71 5.3

You grab the bezel that runs around the outside of the dash, radio, and a/c controls, and simply pull it off. It might be hard to get started, but it'll come. Then you have to remove 3 bolts, I think they're 5.5 mm, am not sure. Once out you simply slide the radio out and the connections are on the back. Be sure you don't forget to plug the radio antenna back in, it comes unplugged fairly easily.
