Exclamation Jekyl vs old shool BMW 5 series (a street story ~ say it isn't so!)

Okay, as most of you know I do not street race (any more), but that is not to say that I never "enjoy" my car on the street ... just not against other cars.

Jekyl is my NON-turbo MR2, so it is slow to say the least. It is quick and fun, but not fast and not worthy of an acceleration contest by any stretch.

Story:
I was going to meet my girl last night and I was running a tad late so I was driving briskly. I got behind a 5 series bimmer (later 80's/early 90s) who was also make their way through traffic, so we both got on it really healthy when traffic broke.

I was behind them and I think I just chose a better gear because they did not pull on me. I was expecting them to be gone. So we accelerate at WOT from 60 mph or so ... as we pass 85 mph, they signal and pull out of my way and immediately slowed down and I flew past.

I continued up to beyond 100 mph.
At that part of the expressway there is a left/right S-curve that is barely a curve at 55 mph, but at 100 mph things a tad different

I suspect that is why the bimmer "got out of it big."
Jekyl, however, nailed the curves (completely open road) and it felt great.

Sorry it wasn't really a "race," but it was fun and that is as close as I will get to playing with another car on public roads.

Look at his other car. Anything that doesn't run 13s or faster is slow to him

Jekyl and Hyde are both '91 MR2s.
Jekyl is non-turbo and Hyde is turbo.

The Non-turbos run 16.00 typically, with good driving I have seen people nail a 15.9.
Jekyl has a really, really bad clutch though so there is no way I would be running even a mid-16 right now.

The car, does however, handle awesome ... and let me tell you, nailing that "S" at 100+ felt great

For the record, in my opinion:

16.50 and slower = slow
15.00 - 16.50 = respectable
14.99 - 13.2 = quick
12.2 - 13.2 = fast
12.2 or quciker = better respect what you have!

Again, that is just my opinion

straight line speed isnt everything man, you proved a well balanced car is able to hold up against a more powerfull car. I made a c-note off some guy in an old school 73 ford Turino with like 400 whp in my 222hp 3000GT. he bet I couldnt out run him so I chose a twisty road and his car just couldnt stick on the corners.
hope you get that clutch fixxed soon too. I look foward to more videos.

That was the first ever "street" story I've heard from you since I've been here. Never been through the twisties myself, but hey, good "kill" on the bimmer nonetheless. Late...
