Maxima vs. Sentra

we finally set this up,my friend didnt have to work,so he could drive the sentra and i took the maxima. So while he was followin me i went around the beach,he got on the side of me and i heard him put the car in 1st(automatic).so i do the same and i gave him 3 honks and we off.
we went from 20-60..i got him but im not sure by how much.

second race he gets a bit of a jump(he just went i wasn't ready) and we take it up to 50 and it wasnt enough time to really do anything but i was just abotu to pull on him,i got him by about a finder.

3rd race(and this is a weird one) he definitly got the jump and once again i wasnt ready,we didnt go long at all and he was pulling on me!!
i thought i would never see that happen in the maxima...i was like wtf.i we slowed down and he said he was only at 3000rpms.

last race i smoked him.

ok the maxima had me and my g/f inside, and we were using 89 octane.
the sentra had one person inside and using 93 octane.

still i dont see how the sentra will pull on me like that.(wasn't a real race tho)now if we took it up to 90 i would win by like 10 cars.

Re: Maxima vs. Sentra

20-60, 20 - 50? Sounds like it was over before it even began. I think this might be the first race where people wouldn't have gotten pulled over, even if there was a cop behind you.

a 3.5 maxima is only as fast as an auto 2.5 sentra? i thought a 2004 maxima had like 265 hp.

When you have a short race like that, you can't really tell how much faster a car is. I'm pretty sure the Maxima would beat a Sentra easily if it was a real race.

its weird with the maxima b/c sometimes it gets good launches and sometimes bad ones .sometimes when i hit the gas it feels slugish and sometimes it will snap ur head back.when the sentra pulled on it and little bit i wasnt at the right rpm.

why did we go so slow? first of all there was an accident 3 miles north of my city so we couldnt get out,we woulda been sittin in traffic for 2 hours.if we coulda got out we woulda went up to like 90 maybe.

intown where we race the speed limit is 30.that why we only took it up to 60 and cops were out last night cuz all the tourists from new years drinkin and drivin.

don't ever run 89 octane in that max. i drove one at work and it was detonating, please treat your car with more respect then that. your max is losing plenty of power as the cars knock sensor is throwing back timing big time trying to save the engine from blowing up by using cheap gas.

switch over to 93 octane so it won't clog up your fuel filter and injectors, and so your engine will stop knocking. i hate it when people drive nice cars and use cheap ass gas. and yes gas do make a difference if your running a turbo/ super charged, or a high compression engine. if i was to even use 91 octane in my engine, i would've have to kiss my engine good bye.

also the maxima's fortie isn't from a short burst, you probrably never even gave it a gas to stretch its legs out, or even let the variable geometry intake manifold open up.

try tracing on the way from 60-120mph i garantee you that the SE-R will be in the rear view mirror.

edit: the reason why its sluggish from a roll is becasue your in a automatic maxima with only 4 gears, and no tiptronic. when your doing a 20mph roll your probrably already in 3rd gear in the automatic tranny. if your not flooring it all the way, the tranny will refuse to downshift. that explains your sluggish start, and then when the computer finally realises what your trying to do, it will downshift down to 2nd, and thats what gives you that jerk.

if you want to race from a roll, just leave it in 1st gear, then manually shift it yourself.

Yeah, 20-50 is just a bad race. Even 0-60, the maxima shouldn't have a problem beating a Sentra. I'm not sure if it will downshift to first or second if you're going 20 and floor it. If it shifts to second, you might beat it, if it downshifts to first, you should deffinitely beat it. I agree with tat, leave it in first and that should get you rolling pretty nicely.

did you see this post i made in the other thread?
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...7&postcount=33

no wonder you're car's not running up to it's potential. you could be down like 50-70 hp.
stop using that shitty gas, your car is pinging, you're gonna fuck up the cylinder walls and have shitty compression. you were given a nice car, treat it properly. that engine didn't make it on Ward Automotive's Best engine's 10 years in a row for no reason.

Fuck it bro, I say tell your folks to sell the Maxima and keep the Sentra. who knows how long they've been runing it on low oct. they've probably done enough damage by now. have a mechanic run a compression test on it to be sure. but if I had a maxima that got taken by a sentra I'd go and put it out of its missery.

it has 3000 miles on it.they have been using 89 octane since birth. they read the owners manuel and it says that 89 is all it needs.however the sentra cant take the maxima. it was just a short unexpected burst from 25-50 and the max didnt downshift to 1st gear and the sentra was held in 1st up to 40 then he put it into 2nd.

the best race was the first one when we took it up to about 65,he said he quit cuz the maxima was pullin so hard.

thats bs. i bet you when you open up that filler door, it will say ( use premium unleaded gasonline only )

if nissan said that about my 13 year old design KA when it was stock, it will defiintly say that about its modern VQ engine. i'm sure it will have higher compression ratio then mine. the KA has a 9.5:1 comp ratio stock.
